When you are reading, you may come across words that you don't know. One way to figure out what the word is, is to use word guessing strategies.

One word guessing strategy is to use the context of the sentence. The context is like the other words and sentences around the word you don't know.

Another word guessing strategy is to look for clues in the word itself. Look at the beginning sound of the word, the ending sound, and the number of syllables.

A third word guessing strategy is to think of a word that you know that sounds similar to the word you don't know.
